Summary
Integrative review by a Brazilian research group of what is known about the barriers and facilitators to implementing or adapting Communities That Care in different communities and countries. Searches in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, PsycINFO and the Virtual Health Library combined the terms “Communities That Care” or “CTC” with fidelity and implementation; 16 studies published between 2005 and 2021 met the inclusion criteria, most of them quantitative or mixed-methods, experimental or quasi-experimental and longitudinal. The main obstacles reported were mobilising the coalition, low community readiness for change, collecting epidemiological data and putting evidence-based interventions in place. The consistent facilitators were training and technical assistance, which raised readiness, strengthened coalition work and made communities aware of why evidence-based prevention matters. A compact orientation for European sites planning a first CTC cycle, and a reminder that the system's support structure is part of the intervention.
