Sammanfattning

Eight-page overview published by Estonia's National Institute for Health Development (Tervise Arengu Instituut) presenting results of the 2022 pilot of the Estonian adaptation of the Communities That Care Youth Survey (Hooliva Kogukonna Noorteuuring), carried out under the EU project Frontline Politeia in two rural municipalities with 257 pupils aged 11 to 19. For each of twelve outcomes (mental health problems measured with the SDQ difficulties score, self-harm, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, alcohol, snus or waterpipe, cannabis, other illicit drugs, police contact, violence, theft and riding with a drunk driver) a chart places the risk and protective factors that predicted the outcome on an odds-ratio scale from 1 to 5+; only statistically significant associations are shown. Early initiation of substance use and antisocial behaviour, parental attitudes favourable to substance use, friends' substance use and gang involvement stand out as risk factors, while relationships and recognition at school, in the family and in the community appear as protective factors. A closing page ranks the most important factors for three outcome groups. The authors caution that the sample was small and that the internal consistency of some Estonian scales was low. The document is a results summary, not an evaluation of CTC.
