Summary
Portuguese-language implementation evaluation of the Brazilian pilot of Communities That Care, adapted there as Comunidades que Cuidam (CQC). The study describes the implementation process, assesses fidelity and identifies the main adaptations made during the first two CTC phases in one community in the state of Santa Catarina. The design was qualitative, exploratory and descriptive, with a non-probabilistic convenience sample; data came from the CQC milestones-and-benchmarks checklist and from documents produced between 2020 and 2022, analysed descriptively. Most planned goals were achieved, the core elements of the system were preserved, and the main cultural adaptations concerned how the trainings were delivered. The chief obstacles were delays in administering instruments during the Covid-19 pandemic, difficulties in running the trainings and the work of forming the coalition. The authors judge the adaptation a promising route to consistent community-based prevention in Brazil. There are no outcome data; the value is the documented fidelity of a pilot in a new country.
