Report in German (2nd revised edition, Universitätsverlag Hildesheim, 2023, 119 pages) on the fifth state-wide CTC youth survey in Lower Saxony, fielded between November 2021 and January 2022 by the University of Hildesheim in cooperation with the Landespräventionsrat Niedersachsen. Communities That Care aims to prevent adolescent problem behaviour by creating conditions in which children and young people grow up safely and healthily, and the state-wide survey provides the reference values for the prevalence of risk and protective factors that CTC municipalities compare with their own local surveys to determine prevention needs and select evidence-based programmes. The sample covered grades 6 to 11 of general schools and, for the first time, the first year of vocational schools; 417 classes at 353 schools were drawn, 1,948 pupils took part and 1,746 questionnaires were retained after cleaning and weighted by grade and school type. The gross response rate of 21.8% was well below the 38.1% and 39.3% of 2015 and 2017, a pandemic-era limitation the authors flag, and the report includes items on how COVID-19 shaped pupils’ everyday lives during the survey period.
