Psychometric study in the Journal of Prevention testing the factor structure of the Communities That Care Youth Survey in Colombia, one of the few validations outside North America and Europe. A total of 2,963 volunteers aged 12–19 (mean 14.25, SD 1.53; 53% female) completed the survey, and confirmatory factor analysis was run for the risk and protective factors of each domain. Fit indices were adequate for risk and protective factors in the community and school domains and for protective factors in the family and the individual/peer domains. Risk factors in the family and individual/peer domains did not reach the optimal indices, and the authors recommend revisions there. Overall the results support the reliability and construct validity of the survey domains and its use for assessing risk and protection among Colombian adolescents, with further psychometric work advised. For European sites adapting the survey, the pattern – protection scales travelling better than some risk scales – will look familiar.
