Summary

Conference report (in German) from the CTC-EFF study asking whether local conditions shape three quantities that drive the effectiveness of municipal prevention: the number of evidence-based programmes (EBPs) delivered, the number of people they reach and the fidelity of delivery. In 38 municipalities, local prevention practitioners (n = 242) were interviewed about EBPs, reach and fidelity, and 182 key informants about community capacity for prevention (cross-sector cooperation, integrated collaboration, support for prevention and financial support) and adoption of science-based prevention. Deprivation, spatial type and population size came from official statistics, analysed with bivariate correlations. The number of EBPs correlated positively with adoption of science-based prevention, cross-sector cooperation, financial support, deprivation and rurality (r = 0.185–0.576) and negatively with population size and support for prevention. Reach correlated positively with cross-sector cooperation, support for prevention, deprivation and population size and negatively with rurality; fidelity correlated negatively with rurality. The authors conclude that what a community-based prevention approach achieves depends on local conditions, which is why CTC invests in capacity before programmes.
