Workshop abstract (in German) from a public-health congress supplement of Das Gesundheitswesen, by the Hannover Medical School team and the Lower Saxony Crime Prevention Council. It argues that municipalities, which bring together education, health, social services, public order and safety, are the natural level for an integrated strategy on adolescent psychosocial health, bullying, violence, delinquency and substance use, and presents Communities That Care as the framework for it. CTC was developed in the USA, transferred to Germany by the Lower Saxony council, tested for transferability in a pilot in 2009–2012 and is now implemented in over 50 German municipalities. The authors summarise the BMBF-funded replication study (2020–2023): two years after implementation began, CTC communities had adopted a science-based prevention approach more strongly than control communities, implemented more evidence-based programmes and reached more people with them. The workshop presents the concept, its instruments and the research findings and discusses closer involvement of the public health service, an angle relevant wherever local health authorities are asked to lead prevention.
