Περίληψη

Original scientific paper from the needs-assessment step of the Istrian Communities That Care project. It analyses self-reports of 367 citizens in the twelve participating localities (parents of preschool, primary and secondary pupils, students, pensioners and key people) collected with a modified „Upitnik o vašoj zajednici“ derived from the Parent and Adolescent Survey (Texas A&M); results are given as means, standard deviations and analyses of variance. Respondents described life in their communities as relatively safe; perceived danger was tied to the availability of soft and hard drugs, and attitudes showed greater tolerance of some behaviours, notably drinking by young people and adults. Some risk behaviours were seen as present, such as groups of young people gathering, people drinking or using drugs and offences. Although respondents agreed that children should receive preventive education, neither citizens nor key people would attend such education themselves, which the authors read as an indirect indicator of readiness for action and of the community's mobilisation potential. Group differences appeared between students and citizens or pensioners in the perception of youth drinking and in reactions to cannabis use in the neighbourhood: young people saw more tolerance and weaker reactions than adults. The study is descriptive.
