Περίληψη

Original scientific paper reporting the key-leader survey of the Istrian Communities That Care project, the readiness and mobilisation step of the Croatian model. In spring 2004, as part of the project's main study, 151 key people in the twelve participating localities completed a questionnaire covering four areas: awareness of prevention; knowledge of prevention and prevention programmes; the readiness of their own organisations for prevention; and their organisations' investment in prevention over the previous twelve months. Results are presented as absolute and relative frequencies, with sex differences tested by t-test. Awareness of the need for prevention was relatively high among most respondents, yet about 80 per cent were not interested in becoming actively involved in improving prevention programmes in their community; they perceived a weaker readiness of their organisations to allocate funds for programmes protecting and helping children and young people, weaker cooperation with other prevention organisations and fewer discussions of such programmes within their organisations, and reported no change over the previous year. Women among the key people showed greater awareness of the need for help, protection and prevention. The paper documents the baseline on which the project's year-long key-leader training was built; it is descriptive and reports no follow-up.
