Short German-language article in the youth-welfare journal unsere jugend introducing the Grüne Liste Prävention to practitioners in child and youth services. Its starting point is the steadily growing interest in an evidence base for prevention, understood as scientific support for the effects a programme claims. The questions the author considers decisive for the field’s development are which programmes and measures produce which effects, for whom and under which circumstances. Because practitioners need usable answers, recommendation lists of tested programmes have appeared, mostly in the English-speaking world; the Grüne Liste, run by the Lower Saxony Crime Prevention Council, is the German counterpart. The article outlines how it works: programmes are described in a uniform format and graded by the quality of their effectiveness evidence, so that a municipality or agency can pick a programme that fits an identified need. It is a practitioner introduction rather than a research paper and complements the more detailed book chapter the same author published a year later.
