Riassunto
Systematic review by the Swedish Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Assessment of Social Services (SBU), registered in PROSPERO (CRD42022360672), on psychosocial interventions to prevent and reduce gang crime among children and young adults. Following SBU's method handbook and PRISMA, the project group searched for randomised and non-randomised controlled studies and interrupted time series, assessed risk of bias and graded certainty with GRADE; 42 studies entered the analyses, five of them on universal prevention. Communities That Care appears in the chapter on universal school-based interventions alongside G.R.E.A.T. and Keepin' it REAL, represented by the US cluster-randomised Community Youth Development Study of 4,407 pupils followed from grade 6 to 12, in which 24 per cent fewer pupils in CTC communities reported carrying a handgun. The synthesis without meta-analysis concludes that school-based skills training and prevention systems may reduce gang membership including weapon carrying, with low certainty of evidence, while evidence on attitudes and violent crime is insufficient. Other conclusions concern focused deterrence, probation-based interventions and drug markets. The report notes that CTC is used in two Swedish municipalities. Its relevance for the CTC literature lies in an official Swedish evidence grading, not in new CTC data.
