Report of the national schools survey funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and carried out by Communities that Care (UK) in 2001 with the revised UK version of the CTC youth survey, covering more than 14,000 secondary pupils aged roughly 11 to 16 in England, Scotland and Wales. According to the CTC-EU technical report and to Farrington, Utting and Axford (2021), who reanalysed the same data (n = 14,445), the survey measured risk and protective factors in family, school, community and peer domains alongside self-reported problem behaviour, and provided the first national benchmarks against which local CTC risk audits could be compared. Reported patterns include increases in delinquency and drug use with age and the prominence of drug availability, parental attitudes condoning problem behaviour, low school commitment and poor supervision as risk factors, with family opportunities, rewards and attachment as protective factors.
