Psychometric evaluation of a Persian version of the Communities That Care Youth Survey, prepared by forward and back translation for use in Iran. A total of 753 Iranian adolescents aged 15–18 completed the questionnaire. Reliability was assessed with Cronbach’s alpha and construct validity with confirmatory factor analysis. After two items were removed from the individual/peer and community domains, the 29 subscales showed acceptable internal consistency, with alphas ranging from 0.66 to 0.89, and the factor structure supported the construct validity of the risk and protective factor measures. The authors conclude that the Persian CTC-YS is suitable for research on adolescent health in Iran. The paper reports no relations between the scales and behavioural outcomes, so criterion validity remains to be shown. It is nevertheless one of the few tests of the survey outside Western and Latin American settings and adds to the evidence that its risk-and-protection framework travels across cultures.
