Résumé
Preliminary communication reporting peer violence among Croatian secondary-school pupils from the five-city school survey of the Zagreb prevention laboratory. A quota sample of 10,138 pupils of all grades and programme types in Zagreb, Pula, Split, Osijek and Varaždin (47.4 per cent boys, 4.5 per cent without gender data, mean age 16.2 years) completed a socio-demographic questionnaire and the peer-abuse and violence scale of the Croatian CTC questionnaire for children and young people (Mihić, Novak and Bašić, 2010). In the previous month 38.9 per cent had witnessed peer abuse at least once, 18.2 per cent had been exposed to it and 11.8 per cent had experienced cyberbullying. The frequency of experiencing, perpetrating and witnessing individual forms of abuse, and of its consequences, differed by gender, town, grade and type of school programme; the authors note that some communities and programme types carry higher risk for girls. They call for timely, comprehensive and continuous investment in evidence-based prevention and psychosocial support. The study is descriptive and cross-sectional; it documents the use of one CTC survey scale in a large Croatian sample but does not evaluate any intervention.
