Summary
Peer-reviewed validation study (in German) of an instrument for measuring the factors that help or hinder implementation of a prevention strategy in schools. The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) names many facilitating and inhibiting factors to track during implementation, but Germany had no validated instrument for schools. The authors transferred an instrument validated in municipal prevention and health promotion to the school context and tested it with 92 respondents from 23 schools that were starting a school-wide prevention and health-promotion strategy. Exploratory factor and reliability analyses were run for 22 constructs. Internal consistency of the multi-item scales was satisfactory to very good (Cronbach’s alpha 0.642 to 0.981), and intracluster correlation coefficients between 0.218 and 0.664 show that a substantial share of the variance lies between schools. Inhibiting factors correlate with one another not at all or positively, as do facilitating factors, while correlations between the two groups are mostly absent or negative. The pattern is theoretically plausible and fits earlier findings; the instrument suits research and ongoing monitoring.
